NPS owner strategically acquires healthcare business

The owner of the printing and design company Newcastle Print Solutions Group (NPS) added a healthcare business to his growing group after his printing client called on the couple to help them purchase PPE projects.
Richard and Julie Bennett are also the founders of Derwentside Environmental Testing and the former owners of Gateshead FC. During the coronavirus pandemic, their customers asked them to use their scientific knowledge and contact information to purchase certificates of PPE projects that meet the following criteria hard to find.
The two completed the acquisition of Caremore Services, a supplier of Teesside equipment, from their retired directors Peter Moore and David Caley on June 1.
Caremore provides medical and cleaning supplies to regional customers in the healthcare and nursing home field, as well as a range of other products, including electric profiling beds, shower chairs, medical lifts, slings, stress relief and stress relief products, and furniture.
Michael Cantwell, head of corporate finance at RMT Accountants and Business Advisors, led the acquisition on behalf of Bennetts, and Swinburne Maddison partner Alex Wilby provided legal advice. Craig Malarkey, partner of Tilly Bailey & Irvine, provided legal advice to the supplier.
Richard Bennett described Caremore as “a perfect strategic fit for our business [this] allows us to officially enter the healthcare industry”.
He told Printweek: “During the first few months of the pandemic, we lost about 70% of our business overnight. This situation started to recover from early summer last year, but to help us, we used some previous contacts Come to purchase things like PPE to help some of our customers.
“It was of great significance to us to have some nursing home customers at the time because they also needed some help and asked us if we could provide services for them, so we helped us through the difficulties in helping them.
“But we like what we do and we don’t want to change, so this acquisition is really not only to supplement the printing business, but also to make it more circular-we will look for our nursing home customers, not only for nursing homes Supplies, and printed matter.”
Bennett also praised the “excellent support” of the RMT and Swinburne Maddison teams, which he said helped the transaction proceed smoothly.
“And we look forward to taking advantage of the opportunities we know are before us,” he added.
Eight Caremore employees will continue to stay in their current office locations. Although the company has become a division of the broader NPS group, its name and brand will be retained for the foreseeable future.
RMT’s Cantwell said: “Richard and Julie know what it takes to build a successful business. This latest acquisition will allow them to combine their business and scientific knowledge and expertise to achieve great results.”
Wilby of Swinburne Maddison added: “It’s great to have worked with Richard and Julie for many years and participated in many projects to successfully solve some difficult problems and assist in their recent acquisition.”
The NPS Group, which now has a turnover of 3.5 million pounds, has 28 employees, including Newcastle Print Solutions and Hartlepool-based Atkinson Print, which were acquired by Richard and Julie Bennett in August 2018 and January 2019, respectively.
In November last year, NPS also installed two new Mimaki UV printers—a roll-to-roll machine and a flatbed—provided by Granthams. The local development agency RTC helped the company obtain a Covid grant to cover 50% of the investment.
Bennett said the new kit helps companies increase their control by providing wide-format jobs such as promotional printing in-house.
The company also runs lithography and digital suites in its printing departments at three locations, which now have a total area of approximately 1,500 square meters.
